Harriet and Oli

This vibrant young couple were looking to enhance their listed oak frame cottage by constructing a stable complex of similar ilk to the property.

We worked closely with these guys during the design of this, although Oli knew exactly what he wanted, so the frame design itself being of a simple oak post and top plates with softwood infill .

The roof however was a little more elaborate with oak trusses, purlins and ridge ,the tack room roof and main roof were then of softwood to keep the cost realistic for their budget. We estimated 4 weeks for the oak to arrive with a view to manufacture and erect approx 3 weeks later

In the mean time Oli was in full control of the base constuction

Being as this was a listed property the planning permission was attained via the client as he was also having extensive works to his cottage

The job was local to us and transport was provided by Oli in the shape of a tractor and trailer with a tele -handler supplied and driven again by the client , with plenty of room on his drive to manoeuvre.

Whilst putting up the frame we had some terrific weather and were able to farm on at pace, so much so the client was so impressed with the progress he asked us if we could clad the walls with weatherboard and close board the roof all of which he was going to undertake himself.

We estimated being on site for around six days for the main frame, roof and carcassing which was spot on but due to the extra works required we left a 2 man crew there to finish up and they took a further 7 days which was amazing

On completion the clients were absolutely chuffed and even gifted us a couple of bottles of gin with thankyou cards

A real pleasure to have done this project
