The Smokin Elk
Outdoor BBQ School
We designed and built a bespoke oak-framed outdoor kitchen and BBQ school structure for The Smoking Elk.
The frame provides a dedicated, weather-resistant space for cooking demonstrations, classes and small group events, with open sides for ventilation and visibility.
Built with traditional oak joinery and crafted to complement the venue’s rustic style, the structure creates a functional yet characterful setting for their outdoor cooking experience.
Frankies Farmshop
Farmshop
We designed and built a bespoke oak-framed extension for Frankie’s Farmshop to create a warm, light-filled dining space that connects seamlessly with the existing building.
The new structure features exposed oak posts and beams, glazed elements and a spacious open layout, enhancing both customer flow and seating capacity.
The result is a characterful extension that complements the farmshop’s rustic identity and provides a welcoming environment all year round.

Nanna Cakes
Tea Room & Farmshop
We designed and built a bespoke single-storey T-shaped oak frame to create a cosy tearoom and farm shop space.
The project included full sheathing, cladding, insulation and slate roofing, complete with black-painted cladding and feature rooflights.
Delivered and installed efficiently on an existing base, the finished structure gives the café a warm, barn-style feel that perfectly matches the owner’s vision.

Initial Enquiry and Consultation
Every commercial project begins with a conversation about your business, your space and the type of structure you wish to create. Once you contact our team, we will discuss your requirements in detail and understand how the new oak frame will support your operations.
If helpful, we can arrange a site visit to:

Assess the proposed installation area

Review customer flow, access routes and layout

Identify any considerations relating to groundworks, services or ongoing trading

Understand the style and atmosphere you want to achieve
Following this, we will prepare a clear, itemised quotation so you know exactly what is included and what may need separate provision.

Planning and Design Stage
Once you choose to proceed, we refine the design to suit the needs of your business and your site.
This stage includes:

Developing the frame design to support the intended use, such as seating, displays, commercial kitchens or customer service areas

Advising on preparatory works including footings, drainage and service connections

Preparing drawings and details that may be required for planning or Building Control

Working with your architect, contractor or consultant team if you already have one
When the design is agreed, we ask you to approve it before we order the oak and begin fabrication in our workshop.

Scheduling and Preparation
We understand that commercial sites often operate while work is taking place, so scheduling is handled carefully.
We will:

Agree installation dates and the expected duration of the works

Coordinate around trading hours, events or access restrictions

Confirm that groundworks and any enabling works are ready for our arrival

Communicate clearly so you can plan with confidence

Delivery and Installation
Your oak frame will arrive on site by lorry with our experienced HB Oak Frames installation team.
On site we will:

Assemble the frame with precision

Manage lifting equipment and deliveries

Construct associated elements such as softwood roofing, sheathing, cladding or insulation, depending on your specification

Maintain safe and tidy working practices around your staff, customers and suppliers
We work efficiently while ensuring the quality and craftsmanship that our reputation is built on.

Completion and Handover
As the work nears completion, our team will walk you through the structure to ensure everything meets your expectations.
This stage includes:

Identifying and resolving any snagging

Installing final details such as guttering and trims, where included

Ensuring the structure is ready for use
We only sign off the project once you are completely satisfied.

Aftercare and Maintenance
Oak is a natural material that matures beautifully over time. We provide full guidance on caring for your new structure.
